About the Book
lThis guide book is for 'Kettle Run Beach Walk' from the "One Walk, Fossiling Beach Walks - Fossils, Flotsam, Jetsam and Whitby Jet hunting on the beaches of the Yorkshire Coast", series of guide books, whose theme is "Fossiling Beach Walks on the Yorkshire Coast. This book will appeal to those who fell walk or sight see in the North York Moors and are interested in fossils, Whitby Jet and beachcombing flotsam and jetsam.
The Kettle Run beach walk is a beach walk from Runswick to Kettleness affectionately known as the 'Kettle Run'. It has many sites of interest with numerous fossiling and jet hunting spots. The walk to the Kettle and back is easy and popular with families and fossil hunters alike. However, the ascent of the Kettle and the Deep Grove Wyke is arduous and only suitable for those with experience. The 'there and back' walks are relatively easy but require discretion to allow sufficient time to turn back when the tide turns. Early starts are recommended.
The aim of this walking guide is to provide circular beach walk combining the passions of fossil hunting and beachcombing for Whitby Jet, with the sightseeing of the numerous historical sites of interest that lie on our beaches.
The guide indicates the places where to find Whitby Jet, ammonites and other fossils, whilst taking in leisure and historic sites of interest such as scenic harbours, industrial 16th century alum mines, shipwrecks, coastal views of waterfalls and picturesque fishing villages.
