About the Book
126 colour pages 36 Installation and Site-Specific Artists.
This is the third book in The State of Art, art book series and considers how contemporary artists are dealing with what Rosalind Krauss termed “Sculpture in the expanded field.” That is to say work which either relates to or relies upon the location in which it is placed, referred to more colloquially as Installation and Site-specific art.
The terms ‘Installation’ and ‘Site-specific’ art are directly linked and often interchangeable. Installation art in its broadest sense can be defined as: the placing of objects, video, sound or other elements into an interior space, which together with that space, are to be considered collectively. Installation art often takes into account a broader sensory experience**, which is sometimes immersive, whereby the viewer is presented with an encounter rather than a series of specific, isolated objects.
