About the Book
There are about 35 known Vermeer paintings in museums around the world, however, no sketches have ever been found. Painters, specially during the Renaissance and Dutch Golden Age use to draw sketches that would be transferred to the canvas and then painted.
I like to see my work as those sketches that were never found, a first stab at Vermeer's known paintings, plus others never found. Before shooting the photograph I create or imagine the storyline behind it, using Vermeer's real life facts, names and aspects of Dutch life during XVII Century.
These photographic paintings as I call them, give me a lot of personal satisfaction, they take time and lots of work. I had to create lots of props and even costumes, but it is all worthwhile. I hope that you enjoy them as much as I do.
