About the Book
Rather than being a family tree, the facts presented on these pages tell a story. A story of a young couple, pioneers, who felt that the colony of New South Wales promised so much, that they emigrated here, twice. Its about a man who worked incredibly hard as a farmer, as an overseer of teams of convicts, as a publican, as a cavalry officer and who became the right hand man for a future New South Wales State Premier.
Its about a woman who married at 17, and at 18 followed her man half way around the world, and back again, and out again.....supported him through thick and thin......AND gave birth to no less than 14 children.
The story has links with a family fortune being made in the goldfields, piracy and a shipwreck tragedy.
Finally, its about developing their initial land selection of 40 acres into more than 4,000 acres, and includes 60 years and four generations of Patterson's living on the property, "Gerilgambeth".
