    About the Book

    Edit

This is the story of one man's mission to follow the coffee bean wherever it took him. Part-travelogue and coffee diary, it chronicles his adventure into arabica on two-wheels through Europe, the Middle East, and finally to the cradle of coffee. The episodes in this book aim to share just some of the experiences and insights that he gained while on the road in his bid to reach the southern and western highlands of Ethiopia - just in time for the harvest of the red coffee cherry. Starting with the legend behind its discovery, it shines a light on the central role that coffee plays in Ethiopia and the challenges that smallholder farmers face as they struggle to fetch a fair price for one of the finest coffees in the world. All proceeds from the sale of this book go toward buying education materials for the Choche and Bulbulu School in Western Ethiopia.

    London

My name is Antony Watson and I have a passion for writing, cycling and roasting coffee. In 2010, I left the shores of the UK to cycle to the birthplace of the bean, Ethiopia. My journey took me through a myriad of cultures and communities connected to the coffee trade. It was a life-changing experience and the insights that I gained are now compiled in this part-travelogue and coffee diary. My adventure into arabica has only just begun and since returning from the cradle of coffee, I continue to be inspire by and immerse myself in the world of speciality coffee culture from crop to cup.
