SAN FRANCISCO - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers San Francisco District Deputy Commander Maj. (P) Adam J. Czekanski received the Soldier's Medal for his actions of valor and heroism in January, 2014, when he jumped onto the tracks as a commuter train was approaching to save a fellow rider who had fallen due to an apparent seizure. The Soldier's Medal is the U.S. Army's highest for valor or heroism in a non combat situation.
Maj. Czekanski is in good company, he joins former- Secretary of State and former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Colin Powell who also received a Soldier's Medal.
