About the Book
Riding our 500cc Royal Enfield Bullets in the Himalayas was a unique experience, there is nothing that can match it. We were brought together from different lives, different backgrounds and even different continents but we all had one thing in common, our love of motorcycles and adventure... and boy did we have one.
Every hour of every day on our extreme 2070km motorbike adventure through Himachal Pradesh and across Jammu and Kashmir was challenging. It took us completely out of our comfort zones as we rode narrow rutted forest trails, dried out river beds, broken flint roads and vast desert plateaus whilst crossing three of the highest motorable roads in the world.
This was a motorcycle adventure that had every kind of riding condition you can imagine, and some you can’t. The Himalayas are highly unpredictable, we never knew what lay over the next peak or around the next corner. It was often a landslide, which meant some patience and guile, or trying to keep upright in deep river crossings with freezing water gushing straight from a snow capped glacier, we had mud, sand, sheer drops, oncoming traffic, animals, we became prepared at all times for the unexpected.
Every day ended with laughs and a few/many drinks as we relived the days riding, the tumbles, the people we met and what we saw. We slept in tents on high Himalayan plains and alongside crystal clear blue lakes, we bedded down in remote villages full of generous and hospitable Himalayan mountain people who were happy to see us. Hot water was regarded a treat and we graciously ate the delicious food they had prepared for us.
