About the Book
Betty Hyatt was a community activist and leader in community-based housing in East Baltimore. This book comprises interviews and discussions with her principally about her early life growing up in the 30's and 40's in the neighborhood that was to become Washington Hill. She talks about life in the south in her early years of marriage and her return to Baltimore with her five children to escape a bad marriage. And she talks about her committment to the church what led her to begin to work in the communities where she lived.
