Along the far western border of China and the ancient Silk Road lies the province of Xinjiang. A melting pot of cultures, it shares borders with Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. The number of ethnic groups also reflects the diversity which includes Uyghur, Han, Tajiks, Kazakhs, Hui and Mongolian with Muslim being the predominate religion.
