About the Creator
I grew up in West Yorkshire at the foot of the Pennines. The bleak beauty of the rocky crags and moors surrounding our farm continues to inform my work. I have lived in East Sussex since 1997 and am particularly inspired by the shapes and moods of the South Downs. I strive to create paintings with presence, paintings which have atmosphere and countenance. For the last couple of years I have been working in a beautiful light-filled studio in Forest Row exploring tools and techniques which disguise the hand of the artist. I have found in this limitation and challenge a greater freedom. In my practice I explore light and darkness and pure, lyrical colour journeys, working with transparency and glazing to create vibrant surfaces. I am engaged in a passionate journey to rediscover beauty and uncover the unknown. To learn more visit www.richardianheys.co.uk
