About the Book
The Tenderloin, situated in downtown San Francisco, is a dense residential and nightlife neighborhood. It has a rich history and a diverse ethnic community, but it also portrays significant poverty, homelessness, prostitution and high crime rates. The rapid growth of liquor stores (more than 60 in 2008), and strip clubs give the neighborhood a seedy reputation. Taking a step behind and looking at this neighborhood, I am curious to know how children can live a peaceful life. The Tenderloin has a large population of children, approximately 4,000, from mostly Southeast Asian families as well as Hispanic, Russian and African-American. These children living in tenderloin should be helped by educating them and providing them with a positive surrounding. How to reach these issues to the outsiders?
