About the Book
In 2007 Michael St Maur Sheil was commissioned by the Passchendaele 1917 Memorial Museum to document the First World battlefields of Flanders as they appear today.
The resultant work has been exhibited around the world and this book is a collection of those photographs together with the words of the men who fought in these fields of battle almost a century ago.

I am a UK based photographer and have been an associate of the New York photo agency 'Black Star' since 1974. Someone once said, photography beats working for a living and so it has proved for me I have worked for clients such as the BBC, Red Cross, New York Times, National Geographic and the European Commission in over 60 countries around the world and in 2002 was awarded a World Press Photo Award . SInce 2006 I have been documenting the battlefields of the First World War as they are today and now lead frequent tours to enable others to better photograph these landscapes of memory.
