About the Book
Bussum Bridgehead
Farewell to Crailo! 2009 saw the final deployment of allied re-enactors to Bussum to celebrate the liberation of the Netherlands in May 1945. Bussum Bridgehead was a one-of-a-kind event: It was the biggest yearly historical liberation event in Europe with hundreds of participating re-enactors and many historical military vehicles. The closure of the Colonel Palm Barracks, located at the outskirts of Bussum and ideally suited to house the hundreds of re-enactors, all their vehicles and gear marked the end of an era as 2009 was the final edition of Bussum Bridgehead.
This book aims to tell the tale of Bussum Bridgehead through a wide variety of photographs, all shot at the event in the period 2006 - 2009.
