About the Book
Telluride, Colorado's Historical Museum organized the First Annual Telluride Heritage Festival in June 2009. Special events featured a re-enactment of Buth Cassidy's bank heist with a guns a-blaring getaway, stage coach rides, gold panning, pick mining and blacksmithing demonstrations, and old fashioned tug of war. Nickels were dropped from the Nugget Building for kids to scramble for them on the sidewalk below. Cowboys and women in period dress handed out good cheer and a few chocolate coins. A real gold miner told his stories. Members of the Ute tribe drummed, danced, and played. The Wild West Fest brought inner-city kids to Telluride for a week also; their music and dance added to a genuine Cowboy serenade at the Sheridan Opera House.
