Will Brown was a U.S. Army soldier in Company K, 21st Infantry Regiment, during the Philippine Insurrection. On 31 March 1900, he departed New York Harbor aboard the Transport Sumner en-route to the Philippine Islands. While on this voyage, Will Brown kept a daily journal of his experiences. His journal has been transcribed and edited with notes on some of the more interesting things he described.
