About the Book
First you fall in love with a sailboat while working in American Samoa. Then you build a shop so you can build your own version of that boat out of cold-molded wood—and then finally, you really do sail away with her to the South Pacific—twice. Here is that true story told—primarily through photos—of one U.S. Documented wooden sailing vessel named Shanachie, a New Zealand design by Paul Whiting that was originally built in California by her owner. Also included are some of the memorable adventures and magical journeys throughout the Pacific that Shanachie has provided the McKeown family over the several decades of their shared life together. This is the story of one man’s dream come true.
