About the Book
This short survey considers the characteristics of some of these events, their methodology and outcomes. It takes as its focus a series which started in 1997 as the European Multimedia Labs and has developed over more than a decade through a number of iterations which have included the BBC's Interactive TV Labs, the Innovation Labs and the Crossover programme.

About the Creator
Frank Boyd has been one UK's new media pioneers since establishing the Arts Technology Centre in 1989. He was a founder of the European Multimedia Labs, the Digital Media Alliance and BAFTA’s Interactive Entertainment Awards before joining the BBC Innovation and Learning as Director of Creative Development. At the BBC Frank directed development labs for interactive television, broadband and cross-platform production. He established Unexpected Media in 2002 to support innovation and creative research in future media. Recent projects include The BBC Innovation Labs and the international Crossover programme including a series of labs for commissioning editors at Channel 4 and for 4iP.
