The work continues Julie Cook’s interest in sexuality and voyeurism and our desire for fantasy and escape in western. Without the dancers and the customers Julie Cook’s photographs look at the different levels of influence and control that these environments assert. They consider the representation of desire as a physical commodity.

About the Creator
Julie Cook (b.St Albans, Herts, UK) was based in London but now lives and works in Ynysybwl in South Wales and is an artist whose work is photography based. Julie Cook has engaged with issues of voyeurism within personal and public spaces of the city. Much of the work is collaborative in the making and also often in its outcomes. Julie Cook has focused on artists book as part of the process of work. This includes the award winning Baby Oil and Ice, Striptease in East London, the Las Vegas Diaries, Some Las Vegas Strip Clubs, Beauties of Today and Olympia Moments Ltd and The E.L.S.C. FILES. The work has been exhibited internationally and is part of private and public collections including the V&A . It was included in a group show, Paris Texas, with Ed Ruscha and Robert Rauschenberg in Dallas and is to be included in a new publication - Another Country: British Documentary Photography Since 1945 by Gerry Badger, in collaboration with the Martin Parr Foundation.
