About the Book
Phyllis Schwartz is a multi-disciplinary artist and curator who works in photography, ceramics and publishing. This book focuses on her photographic work, specifically on her extensive exploration and experimentation with historical printing processes such as cyanotypes, Van Dyke, gum bromoil, lumen and silver gelatine prints. Through this exploration she has come to a unique process of interpreting these historical techniques through twenty first century printing methods. This experimentation has led her by necessity into new post-processing digital techniques. She has created a unique marriage of techniques that borrow from three centuries of hybrid print making, using the oldest photographic techniques and expressing them through modern processing and printing methods. She is one of few contemporary artists working in this area.
