About the Book
The images in this book were taken in a two and half week period in March 2017, in the small Western Australian town of Mingenew.
They are an attempt to tell the story of the town during this time, solely through the medium of photography.
Of course, two and half weeks is a mere blink of the eye in the life of a community, and therefore, by definition, this story is only a partial one, perhaps a page in much longer story. To really do a community justice, to communicate its life through photographs, would take several years. Indeed, I am working on a similar project on my home village in West Wales. I am eighteen months in to that project, and I have years to go until it is complete.
Nevertheless, these images hopefully draw together some themes, and give some insight in to the life of this very rural community.
I would like to thank the people of Mingenew who made me so welcome, and afforded me so many opportunities. I also wish to acknowledge the work of two photographers who have influenced my work: Martin Parr & Chris Tancock.
