I've been an educator for more than thirty years, and a lover of world music, ethnography and folklore all my life. My parents, both Serbian immigrants to Canada, taught me their songs and dances and I performed with several dance groups in my youth. I collect Balkan textiles, and that was the inspiration for this book. A bukvar is an alphabet primer, for learning the Serbian cyrillic alphabet, ćirilica. This bukvar walks you through the rich material heritage of Serbs from all across the Balkan peninsula, with costume pieces illustrated using original paper art I created, and explained in a special bilingual appendix. This was a labour of love, the love for my first language, my heritage, and its folkloric culture. Book is entirely bilingual, in Serbian and in English parallel text.
