About the Book
When Margaret and I moved into our house in Philadelphia's center city in 1984, we expected to put a roof deck on the roof over the rear of the third floor. Phil Shames, our contractor for the initial renovations, was walking on that roof, and came up with a better idea. He said we had the highest house on our half-block of houses, and suggested we cut through the slanted roof on the fourth floor in the front of the house, put in a new stairway, and build the deck above the highest point of the house. That excellent idea has given us decades of pleasure.
Sometime in the mid-eighties, I asked the question, “How many great photographs can I get from my roof deck?” In the last year, I answered that question, gathering photographs taken between 1987 and August, 2017. You can see the results in this book.
