About the Book
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life shortening genetic disease that currently affects 30,000 Americans and over 70,000 individuals worldwide.
Because of the underlying genetic defect in children with CF, many are malnourished (because they are unable to properly absorb the food they eat) and suffer from recurrent lung infections (because the mucus in their lungs are unusually thick and sticky) that often lead to irreversible lung damage and ultimately can result in premature death.
As their lung health deteriorates, some children are hospitalized more frequently and for longer stretches of time where they undergo intensive therapies that are not always pleasant. When this happens, they are removed from their friends and family and placed in a world of illness and isolation.
Despite such conditions, many children with CF have the amazing ability to acclimate and thrive. Not so much for themselves, but for others around them (friends, families, and caregivers).... Much like heroes who unselfishly give so others can have hope.
This science-fantasy graphic novel was created for and is in many ways about such children.
Enter their world and you may find yourself in the lives and experiences of many children with CF around the world.
***Note, this is a prototype and there's 60-80 pages left before the project is complete.
Also note that this is primarily for preview purposes and the price is artificially inflated since it is a prototype. Purchase only if you are a collector since only a few of these will exist. ***

About the Creator
It is my passion to combine together the arts and sciences in the world of modern medicine where there may be imbalances between the "art of caring" and the "science of curing." This balance is especially needed when providing care for children with acute and chronic illnesses. Johnny and the Magic Paint Brush is a synthesis of many current concepts and situations in medicine presented in a graphic novel format with the goal of intelligent educational entertainment that will raise awareness of cystic fibrosis to a new level. Enter Johnny's world and you will never be the same.
