About the Book
George D. Ted Walker, a self-proclaimed Georgia Cracker, was born in Conyers, Georgia, in 1930. The Crumbs that make up this book are essays about his life, penned by hand, then typed into a word processing computer program by the hunt and peck method. Crumbs piled up, and they formed Crackers, or chapters.
Mr. Walker’s life is rooted deep in small town Georgia during the Great Depression and World War II. A strong family foundation provided him the fertile underpinning for advancing, adventuring and evolving with powerful spirit - and plenty of humor - through the decades into the twenty-first century.
Adventures of childhood and youth, followed by a few years in the US Army, and a career as Extension Forester at The University of Georgia in Athens, furnished ample material for Crumbs. Work travel included several stints in Sri Lanka. In retirement, he was a leader in Constructores Para Cristo, a housebuilding mission in Mexico. He and his wife Doris befriended folks from various parts of the globe through Friendship Force travels, and by hosting foreign visitors.
Read Crackers and Crumbs - Snippets from the Great Depression into the Twenty-first Century to walk alongside Mr. Walker, and hear his tales. You’ll laugh, maybe shed a tear or two, and definitely gain insight into a full life, well-told.
