The cultures of Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos) were heavily influenced by the traditional symbology of Chinese culture. Chinese understanding of the essential elements of the world were communicated by associated colors, and these colors continue to pervade Southeast Asia. They provide a lens into the past of Chinese influence on the region, as well as a tool to understand the vibrant cultures of today. Colors communicate and the photographs in this book are selected to communicate how the traditions of the past are still honored today.
