About the Book
“In My Nature” is a companion to my original book, “Turning Timbers,” that was produced for my exhibit as Artist-In-Residence for the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore (now Indiana Dunes National Park). “Turning Timbers” was composed of photos of 41 woodturnings and sculptures I created from trees indigenous to the Lake Michigan region of northwest Indiana. Each tree had a specific lyrical essay by Joan Gibb Engel. This book is also a Blurb publication. “In My Nature” is based on the same 41 trees plus 5 more. Joan’s essays remain the same with new essays for the additional trees by Rosemary Gemperle and Larry (Lars) Jensen. Forty five turnings and sculptures are new by Jensen, perhaps more sculptural than earlier. The front cover of Black Oak leaves was a painting by the talented botanical artist, Ann Tompkins.
