About the Book
Big Trip charts more than twelve months' of adventures as Calum Scott walks 500 miles to raise money for charity, completes a three-month project for an eye-care charity in Belize, works for a microfinance charity in Australia and travels round South America, Asia and Africa among other places.
Calum looks beyond the simple tourism element of travel and makes some observations about the personal value of charity work, the repitition of important lessons learned from extinct cultures, and the interpersonal nature of travel in the twenty-first century.

Calum Scott
Sydney, NSW, Australia
Calum Scott was born in Stirling, Scotland on 10th February 1974 and grew up in Ayrshire, where he attended school. After his dream career as a professional footballer was cut tragically short by a complete lack of talent, Calum studied economics at Glasgow University before going on to work for ten years as a government economist in Scotland. With the economy on its knees Calum decided it was the right time to take a career break and explore the world. While on his epic journey, Calum was offered a job with the charity Opportunity International and in summer 2007 he moved to Sydney where he hoped to indulge his hobbies of scuba-diving, sailing and salsa.
