About the Book
I had been reading the Guide des Gourmets and I had found among other places where one ate well, Pernollet’s Hotel in the town of Belley. We arrived there about the middle of August 1923. (..) We found that Belley was the birthplace of Brillat Savarin. (…) We also found that Lamartine had been at school in Belley, Gertrude Stein says that wherever Lamartine stayed any length of time one eats well.
Anyway he was certain that anything should not look like anything even if it did and that really it did not. That was the influence of photography upon him it certainly was.
