About the Book
One of the mainstays of photography has always been portraiture. Now, one might assume this would fall naturally into my own photographic purview given my attraction to story telling through images and compulsive desire to expose camouflaged complexion. Unfortunately this, more often than not, involves interaction with people. And there is the problem for me.
I have never been much of a people person. And the older I get, it seems my protective veneer of tolerance towards most people gets thinner and thinner with each passing day. I guess time and the sheer tenacity of human self-preoccupation have a natural tendency to grind it away. So it goes.
Now, while I may not be especially comfortable around people, I do feel a special connection with dogs. Dogs are all the things people (increasingly) are not. They are honest and loyal and in the moment. They take care of each other. They show and receive love without strings or conditions. They are the embodiment of agape love. They are resilient, adaptive, creative, and way smarter than most people I know. (Present company excluded. As far as you know).
This then is an issue of dog portraits.

My passion for photography started back in the late 1980's on film. I really enjoyed doing it but, to be honest, it was mostly just playing around stuff. I made the switch to digital photography around 2002 and my passion really started to grow. There was so much more you could do creatively with the digital medium without spending a fortune on the learning curve. My goal is to tell interesting stories through light, emotion, and allegory. I am trying the self-publishing route to see if I can get others as passionate about the reality I see as I am.
