This is the first book instalment to a three part series covering the realities of a 'prisoner to the street'
mentality.
I wanted to use my understanding of knife crime cases and how they are portrayed in the media to create my own story. This particular narrative focuses on social acceptance through crime.
I created this story as I feel it is something that is a huge issue and is something that more and more youths are becoming involved in. The number of offences involving knives or sharp instruments went up by 8 percent to 39,818 compared with 36,776 offences recorded the previous year.
This isn't my experience on the subject but it is something that being a youth myself often heard about. I did know people who brought knives to my high school along with drugs and other weapons, they did this to assert dominance not to protect themselves. I think that's what brought me to do this project, even though I didn't become involved with knives, I was still aware of it around me. The scariest thing for me is, you just don't know who is carrying these weapons and what is going on in their mind.
