About the Book
Costa Rica is a vibrant, colourful country, full of many wonderful sights, and is home to a rich variety of plants and animals. While the country has only about 0.03 percent of the world's landmass, it contains 5 percent of the world's biodiversity. Around 25 percent of the country's land area is in protected national parks and protected areas, the largest percentage of protected areas in the world. Particularly well known and important areas for wildlife are Tortuguero National Park famous for its turtles and jungle canals, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, home to about 2,000 plant species, and Arenal National Park which boasts over 120 mammals. This book is a record of my all too short travels in Costa Rica, and gives a glimpse into some of the magnificent sights to be seen there. The emphasis is on the wildlife, featuring some of the unique animals, birds, reptiles and plants found there.
