About the Book
Ballet-ex is a ballet company founded and directed by the choreographer and dancer Luisa Signorelli, which aims at highlighting qualities and potential of dance performed by men, working mainly with male dancers. Born in 2007, the company is an Italian avant-garde of neoclassical and contemporary ballet, strongly committed in a fruitful work of artistic research: its solid classic roots bloom into a contemporary richness of other styles contaminations, with the express purpose of carrying on the 21st century Italian dance tradition. Luisa Signorelli’s choreographies tell us about modern man, explore social phenomena and universal themes, advance through feelings and emotions, depict passions and defeats, strenuous contrasts and the magic of their dissolving into a hug. Luisa Signorelli wants a dance capable to talk to the public with innovative and powerful choreographic models, which deeply engage every single spectator and make them part of what they see: the language of movement is clear and direct, far from intellectualisms and hermetic symbolisms, and capable to make collective archetypes emerge, moving people. Shows full of poetry, even in their most powerful transitions, suggestive costumes, background videoclips and evocative music; dancers become performers to which Luisa Signorelli asks to be real and essential: this gives strength to the entire choreography, because the public needs clarity and truth. Massimo Danza’s photographic viewpoint gets passionate about Luisa Signorelli’s choreographic world, plunges into it and follows its lines and curves, returns lights and shadows to forms and volumes, accompanies its breathing among leaps and falls, focalises the structural concepts of dance movement, which thus reveals into photography the life it symbolises, giving it back to the viewer with the strength and effectiveness of synthesis: from movement to image.
