Variations is a collection of over 150 distinct 8.5×11 inch pages of hand-lettered psalms, each one unique in its detail. Combining classical calligraphy styles such as Roman, Celtic, Italic, Bookhand, and Blackletter, the pieces in Variations synthesize the ancient art of hand-lettering with the risograph machine to produce a body of work that is a contemporary meditation on the psalms. The psalms were first hand-lettered, then scanned on the risograph and printed again- some several times- engaging experimentation in color, form, paper texture, ink, and scale. The process itself made space for exciting discoveries that could have never been predicted beforehand.
